Clayens - an eco-responsible approach

Clayens successfully responded to Médiaperformances' request by offering an eco-responsible alternative for the "Sapinette".

The issue was as follows: the "Sapinette," a small support used to carry and display discount vouchers in retail stores, was previously made from Polyamide 6, a plastic known for its flexibility, but posed challenges in terms of recyclability and waste management.

Committed to reducing its environmental footprint, Médiaperformances sought Clayens' expertise to find a more environmentally friendly solution.

The challenge was clear: maintain the characteristics of the original material while adopting a compostable alternative. Through open and effective collaboration between Médiaperformances and Clayens (Genas and Brion), various potential solutions were explored and defined.

After numerous trials and a meticulous analysis of the life cycle of different materials, the chosen material that met all requirements is a derivative of PLA (polylactic acid). Derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane, PLA offers performance comparable to Polyamide 6 while naturally decomposing into beneficial nutrients for the soil, thus providing a more environmentally friendly solution.

The transition to PLA for manufacturing the "Sapinette" marks a significant step in Clayens' commitment to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). This initiative to seek a compostable material was a first for Clayens, and it also allowed Médiaperformances to further its eco-responsible commitment.*
